Sarah L. Terrell, Sarah believes all children are born “hard wired” for music and that playing with others is the most impactful way to engage in learning. When given opportunities to open themselves up to imagination and self expression, young students build advanced skill sets that transfer to whatever they may decide to to do! Diligence, self motivation, how to receive constructive feedback, are integral to her interactive curriculum.

COMMUNITY: What makes Sarah's studio different from a music school? She does all the teaching. Parents and students trust Sarah’s consistency in building relationships as students grow through the years. She will be there for the duration, unlike a music school where teachers come and go. Her students play at a local assisted living facility every year, families come together during the holidays to celebrate around the piano, and new friends are made across school districts and cities; creating community and spreading the joy of music and connection.

SMALL GROUP MODEL: When students learn together they have a common aim. They work as a team, and every individual is motivated and invested. Games, songs and creative tasks are achieved by working together. Learned topics inspire and give relevance to piano playing and musical elements including artistry, with variety for different learning styles.

SECURE FOUNDATIONS: Lots of review, careful building blocks and scaffolding of concepts builds a well-rounded young musician.

LEGACY: In her home studio, Sarah provides a nurturing, patient environment combined with high expectations and involvement from parents. Many of her students have progressed through their beginner fundamentals and now prepare graded solos at NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) and consistently receive outstanding ratings from adjudicators.

FUN! Sarah's students love their classes, which frees them to access and apply their learning more successfully.

Sarah has been working with young people for 25 years. She earned an M.A from New York University and a B.F.A from the University of Kansas School of Music. She was Education Programs director at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill and the renowned TADA! Youth Theater in New York City. She is a proud member of New York’s local MTNA chapter (Music Teachers National Association) staying current with professional development in small group settings, and collaborating with piano teachers around the globe!
